Back in 1994 I made this classic Steve Neill Grey bust. In those days it was sculpted and molded and cast in plaster. I sold a lot of these through my then-named company Dreamland Effects.

When I went to Twenty Century Fox to meet Chris Carter about working on X-files he had two of these. I never knew he had bought one from me. His name at that time didn’t ring a bell.

Fast forward to today the molds are long gone in fact I don’t even own one. This bust was very popular and used by many TV programs such as “Sightings” who at the time I worked for.

These days I sculpt in a program called Blender. It’s not AI but rather CGI and there is a huge difference. I sculpt digitally using its sculpting mode where I shape digital clay the same way I worked with practical clay. And once I have the file I can print with a resin printer. Resin printers print smooth and show the tiny details such as wrinkles and textures whereas Fused Deposition Modeling printers can not.
So it looks just like a cast resin sculpture from a silicone mold.
I decided to recreate that bust from all those years ago. It will be a first in several different types I plan to make and make available.

Working this way I no longer have to sculpt in heavy clay, make a huge mess and then have to make a heavy complicated mold made out of very expensive materials. Remember I’m 74 now, not 34.
But the end result is the same. My hand sculpted creation.
Let me know if any of this has an interest in you. I did change the hand to be a bit more accurate.
